This piece is a Damascene "Owl” necklace by Reed & Barton, est. 1824. Damascene jewelry was inspired by an ancient craft that flourished in Damascus a long, long time ago. This rare art medium, patented by Reed & Barton and done mostly by hand, gives an exciting dimension to the world's most time-honored metals -- pure silver, bronze, burnished copper and 24 Kt gold electroplate. This vintage piece is in excellent condition with no visible wear.The reverse is also signed Reed & Barton Damascene.
