This is Plate I from the D'Arceau Limoges "Lafayette Legacy Collection"
During a clandestine meeting an agent sent by the rebel Republic which had just been proclaimed in America, the Marquis de Lafayette signed in Paris, on December 7, 1776, an engagement in the army of the "insurgents". Baron de Kalb, one of the first French officers recruited by Silas Deane, acts as intermediary and presents the contract to the American Agent bearing his testimony.
