This is an antique Chinese sewing basket. The woven wicker baskets, often featuring adornments such as glass rings, beads, and coins, were popular in China during the late 1800s. They were frequently given as bridal gifts, containing sewing notions.
The basket is typically made from woven materials like cane, grasses, or bamboo. The green ring on the lid is a prominent feature often made of glass or sometimes referred to as "Peking glass". These baskets were imported to the United States starting around 1880 and remained popular until approximately 1930.
