This striking diamond-shaped porcelain vase or tea caddy features a hand-painted Famille Rose (Fencai) motif, a decorative enamel palette popular in Chinese ceramics from the late Qing Dynasty through the Republic period (circa 1890–1940). The scenes depict scholars and attendants in a garden pavilion, a classic theme symbolizing prosperity, longevity, and wisdom.
Each side is bordered with a soft yellow floral band and pastel geometric trim in turquoise, rose, and ochre hues — colors typical of Republic-era export wares. The red “CHINA” stamp on the base indicates export after 1891, when U.S. import law began requiring country-of-origin marks. The square seal characters further suggest early to mid-20th century craftsmanship.
