Vintage Ceramic‎ (?) Candleholder

This vintage piece dates to the 70s. I wish I'd asked the couple I got it from what they used it for. It's opening is slightly too wide for my standard candlesticks so it will take a particular Candle to sit well in it. Another use I brainstormed for it would be succulent planter perhaps. Does some chipping in its olive green paint. Your imagination is probably better than mine. Measures 2.75 inches tall and just under 4 inches wide. The diameter of the opening is 1.5 inches wide.
