It was painted however about 3 years ago. The paint can be removed and has already began to in its own. The metal opener part is silver, but still has some gold paint on it- this can easily be removed with probably Dawn and fingernail polish remover. It is sturdy and works great. 2-brass bottle opener- this is about 30 years old. It’s not in the best shape aesthetically but the tool itself is made well, heavy and still works great. As you can see one side of the opener the checker plates came off.
