A urushi-lacquered wooden tableware set: 1 vintage large plate + 5 matching small plates.
The large plate and the small plates were made by different makers, but both are finished in a distinctive black style known as Zokoku-nuri (象谷塗), a traditional lacquer technique from Kagawa, Japan. They match perfectly and create a cohesive and elegant presence for the dining table.
★Condition:
All plates are in excellent condition and appear unused. You may notice minor lacquer irregularities (small brown spots), which are original and common in Zokoku-nuri lacquerware. These are part of the finish and not signs of use.
The large plate comes with its original box, which shows age-related wear and manufacturer information. The included paper insert has a tear.
★Large plate
- Maker: Bunshindo, a long-established lacquerware maker with over 100 years of history.
- Age: Likely made more than 35 years ago and exceptionally well preserved.
- Size: approx. 9.5in diameter × 1.5in height
- The large plate can also work well as a Japandi decor.
★Small plates
- Maker: Shinwa Biko, another local Sanuki lacquerware workshop in Kagawa that remains in operation today.
- Age: Exact production period unknown, but pre-owned and long storage item
- Size: approx. 4.5in diameter × 1in height
