Vintage Bead for Life Brown Necklace with matching earrings

This is an unusual necklace hand made by Bead for Life. Bead for Life worked with women in developing countries to help them develop entrepreneurial skills toward a goal of becoming self-sufficient. I'm not sure if this is some type of bead or perhaps painted bone, but either way, it is a striking piece! The earrings are not from Bead for Life, but they are some that I found that seemed to go well with the necklace. (They also go well with another necklace I have posted, white bone from the Australia/New Zealand area.)
