This is an authentic early Boy Scouts of America First Class rank brass pin, dating from the 1910s to 1930s. The design features the fleur-de-lis with eagle and shield, flanked by two stars — a symbol of truth, knowledge, and the freedom that Scouting represents.
The reverse is clearly marked “B S of A – PAT 1911”, referencing the early trademarking of the organization’s emblem shortly after its founding in 1910. This patent mark is a highly recognizable indicator of pre-WWII issue pins.
Constructed of solid brass with its original safety-pin style clasp, this piece displays sharp detail and an attractive natural patina. These pins were typically worn on Scout hats or lapels to signify First Class rank or early membership.
Historical Note:
Early BSA pins like this were produced during a formative era for Scouting in the United States, when membership was still relatively small. Surviving original examples are now highly sought after by collectors of vintage Scouting memorabilia, militaria, and early American fraternal insignia.
