Amazing vintage handbag, handmade in Italy for Bags By Josef. The motif suggests the height of excitement surrounding the Space Race and I can imagine this bag made appearances at cocktail parties as aerospace engineering and new discoveries were discussed. Clear vinyl (has slightly milky appearance) Vinyl has no cracks or tears, there is stiffness to the plastic but bag opens easily. Pearlescent plastic clasp. Plastic handles wrapped with gold fiber. Seams are stitched with the same gold fiber. Decoration is folded foil in a squiggle pattern, with silvered edging. Stars and dots are rhinestones and show some darkening, all are sewn on with clear thread. Bag has slight plastic and storage scent.
