1980 Bergdorf Goodman + OBIKO collaboration. Anne McKenna design. Hand Crocheted sweater in a stunning azure blue open knit. An impeccable and collectible treasure, this sweater is absolutely luxurious and edgy! OBIKO clothing was not mass produced and often was one of a kind! It’s in fabulous condition…no holes, fading, snags that I can find.
No fabric content tag but OBIKO sweaters were often made from rayon or silk. This is a substantial weight piece. No size tag, please see measurements in images.
A visionary who presided over the emergence of the art wear movement (fashion created outside the fashion system) in the 1970s-80s, Sandra Sakata owned the Obiko boutique in San Francisco. First established in 1972, Obiko designers played a significant role in the cultural identity of San Francisco and influenced many others working in the textile arts. In 1983, Obiko was invited into the mainstream fashion world of the prestigious Bergdorf Goodman department store in New York City. Sakata fostered a community of talented artists producing pieces inspired by ethnic textiles and traditional craft processes. Sakata’s fashion shows were the hottest ticket in town during that time!
