Beautiful midcentury matched pair of translucent amber celluloid or early acetate hair combs with sculpted butterfly motifs. Each piece was made from a single wide comb base that was factory-cut into two smaller combs, then fitted with separately molded butterflies — a distinctive U.S. manufacturing technique of the 1940s–50s. The result is a coordinated, same-facing pair with graceful depth and rich honey coloring. Details Material: Early celluloid or acetate plastic Color: Amber honey-orange with subtle marbling Design: Butterfly motif attached to comb base  Marking: USA  Era: Circa 1940s–1950s Size: Each approx. 3.25” x 2.75” Condition: Excellent vintage condition — no cracks, warping, or missing teeth; clean factory cut and strong attachment points Notes: Both butterflies face the same direction, consistent with the production method used when wide comb blanks were split and fitted with decorative tops. The pair displays outstanding clarity and polish for its age.
