Vintage Afghan/Uzbek Silk Chapan | Antique Central Asian Robe | Patchwork Floral & Ikat Design | Collector’s Piece
This stunning handmade antique/vintage silk Chapan is a rare find and truly a work of art from the Central Asian regions of Uzbekistan or Afghanistan. It features a striking combination of ikat and floral patchwork patterns in a rich palette of purple, red, blue, and mustard tones.
The Chapan, a traditional coat worn for centuries, is both a functional piece of clothing and a work of art, representing the exquisite craftsmanship of the region. Incredible hand stitched details.
Features: Open front, wrist slits (a rare feature to find and of high historical significance), contrast trim, cotton patchwork lining, double side vents at hem, hand embroidery
Origin: Likely Uzbekistan or Afghanistan
Material: Silk with traditional ikat and cotton floral patchwork lining
Era: 1920s-1940s
Style: Traditional Chapan, a long robe-like coat with an open front
Colors: Multicolored with dominant purples, reds, yellows, and blues
Condition: Please note multiple areas of staining, discoloration and rips. I tried to picture all. These imperfections consistent with the age of the garment and do not detract from it’s authenticity or beauty.
Measurements:
Bust - approximately 32"
Overall length - 47.5"
Sleeve length from top of shoulder - 21"
Due to its age and delicate silk fabric, this Chapan should be handled with care. May be most suitable as a collector’s piece, etc..
