Founded in the early 1960s, the founder, John Meyer, built the brand around an Ivy League, preppy aesthetic, marketing to upscale department stores with its own branded departments inside the best shops. Known for precise tailoring, clean feminine lines, princess seams, matching separates, and high-end fabrics like tweeds and worsted wool. The brand name was deliberately extended to “of Norwich” to evoke a rural‐elegance, East Coast preparatory lifestyle. The brand’s heyday was the mid‑1960s through early‑70s, when it enjoyed strong resonance among young women drawn to polished mod and pre‑boho styles—never “hippie,” in its founder’s terms, but neat, tailored and Ivy‑centric.
