Vintage 1960s beaded apron from Ndebele, South Africa. This apron is called a isiphephetu or pepetu, distinguished by its rectangular shape. This type of apron was made by mothers + given to their unwed daughters who have undergone female initiation rites in the tribe.
Made of canvas, beads + leather.
