These are 6 vintage small dishes, commonly referred to as butter pats (also known as butter chips or butters). They are part of the "Annabelle" pattern by Fine China of Japan.
Function: Butter pats are small dishes used at each place setting to hold an individual serving or "pat" of butter.
Size: They typically measure about 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 inches in diameter. These measure 3 1/2 inches in diameter.
History: These dishes were most popular from about 1850 to 1920, though they can still be found in some restaurants.
Versatility: Today, vintage butter pats are often repurposed to hold jewelry, soap, or as a resting place for spoons and tea bags.
There are 6 in this set and all are in excellent vintage condition. There are no cracks or chips. No marks on the surface of any of the dishes. The colors are beautiful and not faded. Gold is found around all the rims of the butter pats. To me there seems to be no wear around the rims but if there is it is minor at best.
A great collection of butter pats from one gorgeous pattern.
