Vintage 50’s Korean Operation Hanky Hand Embroidered Cotton Handkerchief
Charming hand embroidered little girl in traditional Korean dress. A Korean Cottage Industry Embroidery Program In the late 1950s these hankies were embroidered by Korean women in their homes as part of a war rebuilding effort called "Operation Hanky." An American priest, Father Al Schwartz, organized the project for fundraising in order to rebuild institutions ruined by the Korean War.
Donations in the US were solicited for orphanages, hospitals and schools. Donors were sent a hanky as a "Thank you." About 3300 ladies participated in "Operation Hanky."
