Vintage 40s Woman’s Red Wool HandmadeTyrolean Style Snow Bonnet / Winter Hat

Darling Handmade Folkloric Inspired Red Winter Snow Bonnet has appliquéd wool felt flowers & leaves embellished with old fashioned large 1940s era sequins & wooden beads, then embroidered with yarn that extends into long ties with tassels on the ends. It is an adorable little cap that looks like it should be worn by the heroine of a fairytale . Tyrolean inspired Austrian style sweaters were popular to hand knit and decorate with embroidered flowers during the WWII era - a time when women had to make do and mend and make themselves pretty using any techniques at their disposal - such as sewing, knitting, crochet and embroidery and small amounts of yarn or fabric because clothing was rationed and there were shortages of everything needed to make clothes. I have seen instructions for making your own hats like this in old 1940s magazines and 1940 era sewing patterns that often included embroidery transfers and a pattern for making a small matching purse and sometimes a pair of slippers . These little Folkloric bonnets were a popular hat style you could make and decorate yourself - you could also fold them and carry them in a coat pocket and they took very fabric to make. It is very unusual to find one in such pristine unused condition as this. It has never been used and is perfect . clean and ready to wear or display. Teen or Adult Size - not child size!
