Vintage size Small 1930s-inspired red-orange satin acetate maxi gown with black floral appliqué. Great prom dress! Definitely vintage--likely made in the 1950s using a 30's gown style. Probably homemade.
While this seems like a possible vintage party or dance costume (?), it would be great now as a debutante gown with an old Hollywood jazz age vibe or a one-of-a-kind festival dress. And what a great inspiration for a clothing designer for tv, film, and theatre!
35" bust / 25" waist / 40" hips / 16" shoulder to waist
52" total length (front) / 58" total length (back) / 17" zipper length
Fairly poorly and quickly constructed of a lightweight acetate-like fabric in a salmon/orange/reddish tone with black floral details. Hem in back is 6 inches longer than in front.
VERY rare and unusual find! Bias-like skirt drape.
NOTE: Fair condition: some spots, holes (pix 6) and stains on lower back of skirt. Some pinholes. Back neckline has torn corner, which can be repaired. Some fading.
• Sleeveless with wide straps, bodice lined in red cotton
• Scoop front neckline, curved scallop back neckline (has tear)
• Black floral cotton appliqué zigzag stitched onto bodice & trailing down skirt (front and back) - dates this to probably 1950s
• Long fitted darts from waistband extending down skirt (elongated 1930s-style detail)
• High-low hemline (longer in back, debutante/prom-style silhouette)
• White nylon Talon zipper closure up the side
Great for costume designers, stylists, costume sho
