One-of-a-kind handmade two-piece set created from commemorative African wax print cotton celebrating Pope John Paul II’s second visit to Nigeria (March 21–23, 1998) and the beatification of Blessed Cyprian Michael Iwene Tansi.
The vivid green, gold, white, and black print features portraits of Pope John Paul II and Blessed Cyprian, accented with white doves and text banners reading “Pope’s 2nd Visit to Nigeria” and “Beatification.”
Both garments were handmade locally for the celebration — each unique. The cotton remains crisp and structured with only the lightest wear. Excellent preserved condition and a remarkable piece of wearable cultural history.
