Very rare, vintage Ray Ban, Model W1532 Deco Metal sunglasses. These are the genuine, legendary Bausch & Lomb Ray Ban sunglasses, not the mass produced eyewear made by the Italian conglomerate, Luxottica Group that bought the brand in 1999.
In the early 90s B&L created a high-end line of sunglasses known as the Deco Metal Collection. These sunglasses, model W1532 were the flagship design in the collection. The goal was to evoke the styles of vintage 1930s and 1940s sunglasses; the golden era when exquisite workmanship and detail was still practiced.
The level of detail and craftmanship on these frames is simply not to be found on any modern sunglasses at any price. The right lens is laser etched "Ray-Ban" and both lenses are laser etched "BL" near the hinges. The Ray Ban Logo appears on each arm, just behind the hinge. Both nose pads are original and also marked "BL". There's filigree style precision etching around the entire front and rear of the frames, and between those to edge there's a grooved run of gold. Underneath the top bridge is etched "Ray Ban."
These sunglasses are 100% original state, including the carrying case and the cleaning cloth. There are no noticeable scratches on either lens. The carrying case shows minor signs of wear.
Thirty years ago, these were definitely men's wear. In the 21st century, they look just as stylish on a woman or a man.
