Ansel Adams
(February 20, 1902 - April 22, 1984) was a landscape photographer and environmentalist celebrated for his black-and-white images of the American West. He co-founded Group f/64, a collective of photographers who championed "pure" photography, emphasizing sharp focus and the complete tonal range of a photograph. Together with Fred Archer, he devised the Zone System, a precise image-making technique that enabled photographers to achieve a desired final print through a thorough technical understanding of how tonal range is captured and developed during exposure, negative development, and printing. The resulting clarity and depth of such images became a hallmark of his photography.
Throughout his life, Adams was a dedicated advocate for environmental conservation, and his photographic work was deeply connected to this advocacy.
