The 1970 3M "Ploy" game is an abstract strategy board game designed for two or four players. It was part of the 3M Bookshelf Game series and is known for its chess-like feel. The game is played on a 9x9 board with various pieces that have different movement patterns.
Each player starts with 15 pieces (or 9 pieces in a four-player game), including Shields, Probes, Lances, and a Commander. The objective is to capture the opponent's Commander or all of their other pieces. The pieces move along the lines of the board in directions determined by their indicators, and players can change the direction of their pieces to outmaneuver their opponents.
"Ploy" is praised for its strategic depth and the need for players to think several moves ahead. It's a stimulating and challenging game that has stood the test of time.
