Vintage Yellow Sunflower Bread Box – 1950s/1960s Metal Kitchen Tin with Vent Hole
This vintage metal bread box from the 1950s or 60s features a cheerful sunflower design that adds instant warmth to any kitchen. The cream base and bright yellow lid capture the optimistic postwar kitchen aesthetic, when sunny floral motifs were popular in American homes. A series of perforated vent holes on the back allowed just enough airflow to keep baked goods fresh, a hallmark of midcentury bread storage design.
The box measures approximately 13 inches long by 9.5 inches deep by 8 inches tall, making it suitable for loaves of bread, rolls, or as a charming storage bin for tea towels, snacks, or craft supplies. Though it shows age and wear consistent with use, it remains structurally sound and retains its full vintage character.
Condition notes: noticeable paint loss and surface rust on the lid and interior, mild oxidation and scuffs along edges, and some discoloration near the vent. The floral graphics are still vivid, and the hinged lid opens and closes properly albeit a bit tight. Because of its age, if using for bread or baked goods, it’s recommended to line it with parchment, a plate, or a removable liner.
This piece makes a wonderful addition to farmhouse, cottagecore, retro, or rustic kitchen. Unmarked but likely Decoware.
