Vintage 1940s Italian Wedding Cake Rose Clip Earrings, Dark Blue Pink Roses

*Description: This is a beautiful pair of vintage Italian wedding cake clip on earrings from the 1940s to 1950s. These beautiful earrings have the coppery gold glitter glass with the pink and red roses on a dark blue background. According to “The Book of Beads” by Janet Coles and Robert Budwig, wedding cake beads are described as rich bohemian beads with goldstone and rosebud trims. Glass beads are a mixture of sand, potash or soda, heated with lime, and invented in Egypt about 9,000 years ago. It was crafted into beads by the Egyptians and Romans. Glass beads are essential to adornment the world over and the trade of these beads are surrounded by secrecy. Glass bead making techniques are still passed down by word of mouth in Venice, where in 1292 glass makers were moved to the island of Murano and forbidden, on pain of death, to reveal their secrets. These earrings are a bead shape that has been flattened on one side to make a place for the clips to be added.
