Vintage 1940s Advance “Buttons and Bows” Apron Sewing Pattern – J.C. Penney’s Promotional Edition – Unprinted Tissue – One Size
Charming original Advance “Buttons and Bows” apron sewing pattern, dating to the late 1940s. Issued as a promotional giveaway by J.C. Penney’s, this design was inspired by the 1948 Paramount film Buttons and Bows starring Bob Hope and Jane Russell.
This pre-1950 pattern features unprinted tissue pieces with perforated markings, typical of patterns produced before printed tissue became the industry standard in the early 1950s. Includes two apron styles:
• View 1: Apron with pouch pockets, trimmed with rickrack braid, embroidery, and bows.
• View 2: Apron with contrasting ruffles and fabric combinations for a playful, decorative look.
Full gathered skirt with tie waist and optional bow detail. Envelope shows light age toning and minor wear; printed instructions are included, and pattern pieces appear used but neatly folded.
Date: Circa 1948–1949
Size: One size (adjustable fit via ties)
Pattern Pieces: 9 unprinted pieces with original instructions
