Vintage 1930s Upsala Ekeby Pottery Sweden vase.
- Green matte and black glaze with metallic sheen. Clean shape and colors typical of 20th century modernism.
- Upsala-Ekeby was a ceramics factory founded in 1886. At first the factory mainly produced bricks, but shortly thereafter production began to include wall tiles, ceramic stoves and household and decorative pottery. After the 1917 exhibition of “vackrare vardagsvara” (more beautiful everyday goods) at Liljevalchs in Stockholm Upsala-Ekeby began to hire artists as designers, including Anna-Lisa Thomson, who designed the classic vase “Paprika,” Edvin Ollers and Sven Erik Skawonius. They soon became one of the brightest stars of Swedish interior design during the mid century modern period of the 20th century.
- Ekeby stamp on base.
- Good condition with no cracks or chips. There is some crazing to the glaze visible only when looking closely. See photos for more detail.
Measurements: 6" x 6" x 5 3/4"
