Victorian VULCANITE Mourning Brooch ~High Relief ~Rare Indeed

Stunning Rare Antique Victorian Era Vulcanite Mourning Brooch. The motif is High Relief Flowers. Measures 1 & 7/8" x 1 & 5/8" and with such High Relief, it's .75" Deep. Vulcanite is a type of vulcanized rubber formed by combining sulfur and India rubber, then heating the mixture for several hours. Charles Goodyear is credited with developing the process, which he patented in 1844. Most Vulcanite Mourning pieces are molded rather than carved and are more of an Expresso Color, than black and with time, turns more Brown.
