Antique Jackfield Jetware Milk Jug Gold Gilt & Turquoise Enamel Design
it’s in great condition considering the age, no cracks or crazing. A few scratches from normal wear. Small chip on rim. Missing much of the turquoise enamel. The colours are incredibly bright and the gold very striking.
Jackfield pottery is a type of earthenware known for its lustrous black lead glaze similar to Japanese black lacquer wares. It was also very much sought out during the Victorian Era - between 1837 and 1901. When Queen Victoria made use of black items for mourning upon the death of her husband, Prince Albert in 1861, the black gloss of Jackfield wares came into fashion. Jackfield pottery was also known through many other nicknames like Jackfield black, Jackfield-type, jet ware, Victorian jet ware, blackware and japanned ware. (Source: Worthpoint.com).
