Description: Vintage from the 19th century. Heres a whimsical, Victorian odd fellows /Rebeccas (female version) handshake brooch. The brooch features a beautiful lithograph print from the early 1900s that is printed on a domed plate of ivory colored celluloid. Two women’s hands mid handshake, with feminine cuffs. Below the hands reads " Whitehead & Hoag Co, Newark NJ" The curving frame features is a wonderful, slightly arabesque shape in gold tone brass. The back has two pins, one would have been used to hold a ribbon. The second pin is used for attaching to your apparel. The shaking hands emblem, or "fraternal handshake" is a recurring historical motif that has been recycled many times throughout history, at the time of this pins creation, there were several organizations that used this symbol. This would make a really fun gift for a good friend or business partner. Outside of being campy and fun, this brooch is a really fun piece of Victorian fraternity/ secret club memorabilia.
The back of the brooch is stamped with the maker, Whitehead and Hoag Co, It also has a patent date of October, 1892
