This is a very old (well over 100 years) Ginger jar/ Jingdezhen ceramic. Black on white ginger jars are rarely seen, especially with the lid intact. Exquisite black painting on a light grey/whitish base. Chinese royalty with birds and fir branches. Geometric markings around upper mouth of jar. Two black stripes around bottom of jar. These older Ginger Jars are so rarely seen in this pallet. In excellent condition for it’s age. Some mild crazing on jar and lid but this is to be expected for a jar of this age. There is a bit of roughness and wear around rim of jar. This is a hand thrown and hand painted piece and this would also be expected. Again, this jar is in extremely good condition for it’s age. It is stunning in person and makes a grand, yet subtle, statement. It is gorgeous in a modern decor as well as a traditional one. There are also some very subtle shades of grey-green in the jar painting. This has been in my private collection for years and has been well protected. Due to downsizing I am letting it go. It was always one of my favorite pieces due to it’s unique and rare coloring and versatility.No cracks in jar or lid. 6 inches tall. 6 inches wide at widest point. 4 inches across mouth of jar. A truly beautiful, rare antique gem at an excellent price for what it is.
