Antique Chinese Wooden Hand Carved and Hand Fitted Window. 19th Century.

1800’s antique Chinese Wooden window. Hand carved and all hand fitted. Beautiful patina. Each small piece of wood is hand carved and individually fit. These windows were a traditional feature of the Asian homes in the small towns of southern China. Often seen as upper windows to let in light and air or in garden pavilions. Complex geometric pattern and amazing workmanship. These are very rare in these small sizes. The Chinese government has become much more aware of the value of their antiquities and is now rarely letting these leave the country so the very old ones like this are hard to find. These are beautiful architectural pieces that look good with any style of decor. They are wonderful wall hangings and add interest, especially grouped with other things. They always are noticed and usually prompt a conversation. This one is from the mid 1800’s. Wear, scuffs and minor chips consistent with age. All hand crafted and notched. These have been in my possession for years and are just as I purchased them from the antiquities dealer.
