                Variations in Chenille
Forget those one-color chenille bedspreads; here is a new multilayered, multicolored technique to produce a variety of vests, jackets, pillows, and wall-hangings. Known as "slashing," the process involves sewing five layers of fabric together and then cutting through to the bottom (foundation) layer. Tips for color combinations and layering and combining different fabrics (i.e., silks, linens, and cottons, but rarely polyesters), as well as patterns, finishing tips, and diagrams, are included. Washing the produce forces edges to fluff up and fray. This effect is called "blooming," or, as Holmberg names it, faux chenille. Anyone observing the results will call them gorgeous and innovative. For crafters and quilters hungry to create new and exciting wearables, this book will satisfy.
