Van Briggle “Tulip” Vase

Sweet Van Briggle “Tulip” Vase in Excellent Condition. In Blue/Green. This iconic tulip shaped fine art pottery vase was produced by the Van Briggle Art Studio in Colorado Springs, CO. One of the most distinctive features of Van Briggle art pottery is the type of glaze used. Many pieces, including this tulip vase, have a “matte” or non-shiny appearance. This was a result of the founder’s research to recreate an ancient Chinese glaze. After two years of experimenting, he successfully created the “dead glaze,” which led to his initial fame in the world of fine art pottery. The markings on the bottom of the vase cite Van Briggle and Colo. Spgs. I don’t know the exact age of the vase, however the original design was produced in the 1910s-1920s. They continued to produce the design and this vase was produced prior to 2003.
