Vallerysthal Portieux France Bavards Dolphin & Snake Pressed Glass Candlestick

This is a rare and very beautiful, pressed clear glass pillar candlestick made by Vallerysthal in the Bavards pattern, also known as "Diving Dolphin & Snake." It was created in Portieux, France, with a Roman pillar style design and intricately detailed dolphins, cattails and lily pads on the base. It stands 9 5/8" high and 4.75" x 4.5" wide across the base. The dolphin heads serve as tripod feet and there is a snake wrapped around the center of the pillar. It is designed to hold a single taper candle in its sculpted flower-inspired sconce.
