The is a vintage standing sewing basket with wooden legs manufactured by Dexter Brand for Lee Wards in the mid-century modern era. Made with wicker material in tans, this original sewing basket measures 15 inches in length, 14 inches in height, and 11 inches in width. It is a collectible item from the 1960s and was made in Japan. The basket has a satin lining and an accessory tray. The top of the basket is a pin cushion and has a slot ribbon for holding long items such as scissors. It looks like the legs on this were replaced at some point, but are excellent. Very strong and sturdy. This is a gorgeous sewing basket on the larger side. This was made before Montgomery Wards was in business and was the original Kee Wards from Elgin Illinois and sold under the Lee wardsbrand which was the pre-Montgomery wards. The basket is in very good condition. There is some fraying on the ribbon and a crack on the plastic accessory drawer, but does not affect you. please see the pictures.
The wicker on this is plastic and it will literally last forever. This is a very gorgeous rare piece. It is a great part of American sewing memorabilia.
