Vintage, circa 1960s, framed hand painted gouache amate paper paintings.
Depictions of the 'Tree of Life', and 'Birds of Paradise'
Sold at Greynolds Galleries, in North Miami Beach, Florida.
Greynolds was a large purveyor of Mexican and Latin American folk art, all original works (no re prints) during the 1960s- 1980s.
Amate paper is 'bark' paper handmade in the Puebla and Guerrero states of Mexico.
The artisan(s) of this pair of paintings most probably originated from either the Otomi or Nuhua peoples of these regions.
These paintings are not signed, which was typical at the time and especially with these kinds of Mexican folk art; only if a very well established artisan produced a work, would it have the signature.
Beautiful vibrant colors with a charming motif, would enhance any living space.
Paintings are in very good condition
The glass and frames are original to the sale
There is wear and some minor damage to the silver chrome frames (please see pictures)
Shipping will be costly as rates have increased again recently and these will need to be well cushioned and bubble wrapped repeatedly.
Please email me any questions. Will be happy to help.
