VTG Japanese Sake Decanter - Hand-Painted Moriage Porcelain - Palanquin "Norimono"
This vintage hand-painted Japanese porcelain sake decanter is in the shape/design of a palanquin ("norimono" in Japanese) - a box-like enclosed chair that in the past (through the mid 1800s) would have transported a wealthy person, or carried a bride of high social rank to the groom's home after their wedding, by two strong people resting the long wooden piece above the box area where the person sat on their shoulders. This black piece has moriage ( a raised decoration used in Japanese pottery ) design in green, orange, gold, and blue.
Condition: This decanter is in very good condition. There are no chips or cracks in the porcelain, and the painting is in excellent condition - there's only a small area of slight wear of the black paint near the corner of the top roof piece and on the very tips/ends of the wooden piece above.
Dimensions: Approximately 16 inches long, 5 inches wide, and 7 inches high.
All my items are packed extra carefully to prevent damage.
