History Lesson: George Killian's Irish Red is a beer brand that has an Irish heritage based on a family recipe from 1864, which was originally an Irish red ale called "Enniscorthy Ruby Ale". The beer is named after George Killian Lett, the great-grandson of the founder of the brewery in Enniscorthy, Ireland.  The original brewery closed in 1956, and the brand name was later acquired by the Pelforth Brewery in France. Molson Coors Brewing Company acquired the rights to the name in the United States and introduced the beer in America in 1981. While the original was an ale, the American version is an amber lager. The beer's distinct red-amber color and taste come from a special caramel malt roasted at a high temperature for an extended period.  Now Ya Know!
