This iconic piece belonged to my very stylish mother. Purchased at Tiffany's on Fifth Avenue, New York, NY, in the mid 1970s. One owner.
Designed by Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Company. One of her first designs for Tiffany while she was designing with famed fashion designer Halston. Sterling silver snake head buckle onto which slides a narrow leather belt that fastens with a sterling silver stud. The snake head is smooth and fluid (this very early design has no stone eyes). Partial mark near the belt slot reads "PERE....TIFFA..." There are two silver studs included, each marked on the back "TIFFANY & CO; STERLING; PERETTI."
The snake head itself measures 2.75" long and 1.75" wide. Accommodates a belt that is .75" wide.
This comes to you with a total of four .75" wide leather belts: black (43"), dark brown (45"), forest green (43"), and lapis blue (43"). The belt feeds through the buckle slot and is secured with the silver stud (through button holes). The blue belt is stamped "PERETTI; TIFFANY & CO; MADE IN ITALY." The other three belts have no stamp.
The silver shows very minimal surface scratching--I hand polished it with a cloth to brighten it. The black and brown leather belts show wear at the stitched edges, the green belt in excellent condition, the blue belt is mint. Vintage blue Tiffany felt bag included. Stored in a climate controlled environment since its purchase. My home is smoke free.
