Biography
Vangie Tafoya became an active potter in 1982-present. Vangie was born in Jemez Pueblo (Walatowa). She is San Ildefonso and Jemez. Vangie comes from a long lineage of potters starting with her grandmother Maria Sanchez Colaque and relative Maria Martinez. Vangie is the wife of David Tafoya, and is the mother of Brenda Tafoya, Helen Tafoya Henderson and Tyron Tafoya. Vangie states that her grandmother, Maria Sanchez Colaque served as her inspiration and moving spirit behind her passion to continue the family tradition of producing pottery.
