This is a set of vintage (almost antique) Anchor Hocking Block Optic green depression uranium glass. The Block Optic pattern features an Art Deco-style raised concentric ring design. It was produced by the Hocking Glass Company, later Anchor Hocking, in the United States between 1929 and 1933. The green color and the glow under a black light are due to the addition of uranium to the glass. Uranium glass contains a small amount of uranium oxide, which causes it to fluoresce a bright green color under ultraviolet (UV) light. This type of glassware was popular during the Great Depression.
The dinner plate measures approximately 10" in diameter and has some silverware marks in the center from use. The cup measures approximately 4-1/2" including the handle and has a chip at the base. Please review all photos as they are part of the description.
