Still checking in often, but focusing on my Dad's care. ๐ It's been a rough year. Dad had a stroke in October & my brother passed away in March. Dad is 85 & paralyzed on his right side. I may not see a comment right away & can't share like I used to. ๐ข Update: My dad has such a strong spirit, but unfortunately, he got aspiration pneumonia & although he made it through the infection, & is now out of ICU, he can no longer swallow. He will begin Hospice care soon. Focused on Dad, so bear with me.

@kelly32068 @tynleexo @patray1 @lynnm818 I'm at the hospital still. I think I was fully in shock mode yesterday and just heartbroken for my dad. I can function today!
His hemorrhage is stable although it had spread a bit. I am so thankful and appreciative that you took the time to leave such sweet and encouraging comments. We fully believe in the power of prayer. Thank you! ๐๐๐๐

@patray1 Thanks for checking in. We've been pretty down because he has been asleep and unresponsive for a few days but today he is alert, trying to talk -- uh huh and uh, uh for yes/no -- smiling and laughing. ๐๐๐

@threadsobsessed Thank you! So sorry to hear about your grandfather.
Nov 06Reply

vb2011
@patray1 You are so sweet. ๐ He had a rough couple of days -- just slept, unresponsive --staff was concerned and we were just so worried! Thankfully, he came out of it yesterday and had a good day. He said a few words, smiled and laughed. He seems to understand well. He even moved his foot voluntarily for the nurse on the paralyzed side!! ๐๐Today he was tired again, had visitors and therapy on top of that. Still on feeding tube, some fluid in lungs but getting breathing treatments.

โ๏ธUpdate:โ๏ธHe said his full name today! โค๏ธ Just before we left tonight, he said, "No one is watching this." A whole sentence! We were thrilled. I had him repeat it to be sure and he smiled. He was right. Haha. It was his way of saying turn off the football game so I can go to sleep. ๐ They are going to evaluate his swallowing tomorrow. Hopefully he can get the feeding tube removed soon.

vb2011
@grannygertie I appreciate it. We need all the prayers we can get. He looked so lost and sad tonight. He didn't try to talk much today and was just out of it. He did get his feeding tube taken out and can eat soft foods while being supervised until they are sure he is swallowing well. So that is huge!

@patray1 It's been a busy day. Dad got moved to the physical therapy floor. He has a nice large room and it is much quieter here. Tomorrow he will get a bath, be dressed and taken to eat breakfast at a table! He will get occupational, speech and physical therapy at different times throughout the day. We've been very impressed with the care on this floor and are hopeful that tomorrow will be the start to a successful recovery.
Nov 10Reply

@patray1 He still has a terrible cough and is out of it, but he seems to be in good hands. My husband went back to work today, and I'm ashamed to admit that I was so exhausted that I slept until after 1:00 today! I guess I needed it. We are still at the hospital. I'm going to take some time off from Poshmark and catch up on sleep again. ๐๐๐ป

@patray1 I'm happy to share when I have the time and brain power. Haha. ๐คHe's about the same, but he's been "out of it" for a couple of days and sleeping a lot. On a related note, my CRPS/RSD has gone haywire. My feet/toe spasms are back along with a lot more swelling and pain than usual. I'm not as stressed, but can't seem to communicate that to my body. ๐๐ฉ

@patray1 Thanks for always checking in. I updated the post. It's been a rough week but we're hoping to see improvement now that he's getting treatment. They also decreased the muscle relaxer to see if that will help. I was encouraged tonight. He seemed more alert and tried to talk this evening.

vb2011
@patray1 @tynleexo Hi! Dad was moved to a rehab recovery center near our house a week ago. The doctor there feels he will stay at least a couple of months. He is the same as the last update but seems happier and is really trying to talk a lot more even if it comes out not making sense. He just laughs and tries again. He's going to his main doctor at the hospital today for a check up and another scan. For the past two days he hasn't made any sense & said he doesn't feel right.
Dec 14Reply

vb2011
@patray1 @tynleexo The care at this place is not as good so we've had to be very watchful. We've been taking shifts so someone is there most of the day. We put a poster over his bed with all the warnings from his hospital stay but staff still have come in with whole pills, not crushed, etc. His shoulder has been slightly dislocated. This is something that can happen easily to a stroke patient on the affected side so staff have to be very cautious when helping him to move.
Dec 14Reply

vb2011
@patray1 @tynleexo So, that's the update. ๐ I had to take a break from Poshmark because I was exhausted and in one of the worst pain flares I've been in since I got my SCS. I had terrible electrical nerve pain and spasms in my toes and feet. I am finally feeling like myself this week. ๐๐๐ป๐ So, I'm trying to do a little each day here on Poshmark to get back into the swing of things. Thank you again for your prayers and for always checking in. You are both so thoughtful. ๐๐ซ๐๐๐
Dec 14Reply

vb2011
@tynleexo We finally talked with someone yesterday. It really just depends on the shifts. There is one excellent nurse and several great techs, but we never know who is on for the night. I'd be there anyway for my dad but it was very worrying for awhile until we made it clear what he needs.
Dec 15Reply

vb2011
I have CRPS and a torn retinaculum and dislocated tendons that can't be fixed because surgery is too risky due to my CRPS. The SCS didn't cause it. I've had it for about 5 years after a tendon injury, but it worsened after a new injury to tendons in both feet.
Dec 15Reply

vb2011
@tynleexo (See above comment. Forgot to tag you.) The SCS has been a life saver - best decision and no regrets. I was able to reduce meds and went from a wheelchair to walking again. I read about your condition and we share similar symptoms. It's no fun having chronic pain is it? ๐ค I also have scoliosis but it's mild. It just made putting in the SCS a little more challenging.
Dec 15Reply

vb2011
@tynleexo Of course, as soon as I said I was fine, I went into a pain flare. LOL!! ๐ค That's how it goes. I know you understand. I never know how I'll feel from day to day. Hang in there. I hope you are having low pain days!! ๐
Dec 15Reply

vb2011
@patray1 We did talk with someone yesterday! There are some great nurses and techs there but a few that just seem to be going through the motions. My mom spent a lot of time there off and on from Alzheimer's related recovery, so it has terrible memories for all of us. There is an excellent facility nearby but it has a waiting list. We're going to go by there and speak to someone in person.
Dec 15Reply

vb2011
@patray1 Not at all. It was great advice and it felt good to finally tell someone in charge about our concerns. I hadn't thought about getting a doctor recommendation -- more good advice. My brother has power of attorney and lives with dad so he will have to agree. Hopefully, we can work it out. I appreciate all of your help more than you know. ๐
Dec 15Reply

vb2011
@patray1 I just reread my comment. The exclamation mark was strong feeling that we finally got to talk about our concerns. ๐ You've been very helpful. I told my husband yesterday about what a blessing you have been.
Dec 15Reply

vb2011
@tynleexo Hi! ๐ Dad is tough and a fighter, but never has regained much movement on the right side. He did go home for awhile, but had to go back to care facility recently and is in ICU right now with aspiration pneumonia that went sepsis.
Jul 30Reply

vb2011
It's been a scary couple of weeks but he did seem better yesterday; he was laughing and trying to make silly comments. (He has such a strong will to fight and persevere.) On top of everything, one of my brothers passed away in his sleep from a heart attack a few months ago. He was only 52! So, that has been rough as well. That's the basic update. ๐ค You are so sweet to check in on his progress. ๐ We are still going over to see him daily so I'm not sure when I'll get the energy to Posh.
