U.S. Army Technician 5th Grade rank insignia patch with button set

Pair of U.S. Army Technician 5th Grade rank insignia, also known as "tech corporal" stripes, from the World War II era. The insignia consists of golden olive drab chevrons on a dark blue-black wool background, with a capital "T" in the center. The "T" designated a technician, an enlisted soldier with specialized skills, but without command authority over other soldiers. The rank of Technician 5th Grade was equivalent in pay to a Corporal. The rank existed from World War I until 1948 when it was changed to Sergeant First Class.
