It is a multi-Purpose container designed for storing vegetables and even bread to keep it fresh. The grid in the bottom is removable will keep vegetable fresh and crisp and or if you need to store bread in too. Lettuce is design for a round head of lettuce to be store and will keep it fresh. Their is a small plastic spike no longer with Lettuce keeper but this bowl I have found, because I two have a lettuce keeper and it work very well Some wear on both piece but does seal when closed.
