meg23 How to make a great closet: 🔹 Take clear cover shots. Make your listings eye catching! Try to keep your pics uncluttered. Clothes will look best if modeled or styled on a mannequin. (It shows off the style of the item so much better than hanging from a hanger or lying flat). Most of all, use good lighting! Natural light is best so take pics during the day, preferably near a window, for the natural light to shine through! 🔹 Make a descriptive title. When people search for a particular item, your title is what determines whether or not your listing shows up in their search results. Include words that describe the color and style. (Ex: "black lace a-line skirt" vs "skirt") 🔹Make sure to include the brand name on the brand line when making a new listing. This makes your listing visible when people shop by brand. 🔹 Give a thorough description of the item, including style, fit, and condition. 🔹Price: a general rule is 30% used, 50% new with tags. Keep it mind posh will take a 20% commission off your sale. But also remember the buyer has to pay shipping. Ask yourself if you would buy it for that price 🔹 Organize your closet. Group items either by type or color. (Or both if you're super organized!) Keep you best items close to the top. Make it pleasing to the eye and easy to shop! 🔹Answer all questions about your listings. Don't ask "interested?" just because someone likes your item; but if they ask questions, answer in a timely manner.

meg23 Growing your follower base: 🔹The more followers you have, the more ppl there are that will be seeing your item in their newsfeed. 🔹A quick way to increase your followers is to play "follower games" -- a listing where you follow all the ppl who've liked it and most will follow you back. Kinda time consuming but it's a one time thing. And as new ppl like the listing, they will follow you. Search "follower games" to find a few. 🔹Until you build up your follower base, find a share buddy with more followers with you. (Say 20k compared to your 500). When you share their items, they will share yours in return. Your items are now shared to a bigger audience (20k) than if you had shared them yourself (500). Make sense??

meg23 Sharing is caring! 🔹As a general rule, it's good manners to return all shares you can get. But when you're first getting started, focus on building your closet and your follower base. 🔹You may not always have time to return every share, but anytime somebody shares 3+ of your listings, it's nice to return the favor. 🔹Share groups are somewhat time consuming but a great way to get your items noticed if you can commit to them. (If not just have a few close PFFs you share for regularly and vice versa). 🔹Try to share your items at least once a day. 🔹To save time on sharing, share during posh parties! (If you're just gonna share once a day, make it a time when more ppl will see it)

meg23 Posh Parties 🔹When you share your items to a posh party, everyone who is shopping the party can see it, whether they follow you or not. 🔹Morning parties are certain designers, afternoon parties are a specific type item (dresses or shoes), and night parties are a certain style (girly girl, date night, comfy chic, work week, etc). 🔹Night time parties have the highest attendance 🔹Share any of your items that fit the theme!

meg23 Making Sales! 🔹Have an item several ppl have liked but still no sale? Drop the price and posh will send out an email notification to ppl who liked it! 🔹To get more likes (and hopefully a sale!) for a particular item, search for the same keywords. When you find a similar one, follow all the ppl who liked it. If they follow you back, they will see your item. (Have it at the top of your closet to catch their eye!). Hopefully they will like it! This is a slightly time consuming but effective trick, best for higher priced items that need exposure. It's a good way to get your items notice by ppl with similar style. 🔹When your item sells, package it to ship. Make sure it's clean and wrap it in some bright tissue paper; you can add pretty ribbon and a thank you note. 🔹Print the prepaid label and drop at the post office (or in those blue drop boxes if it fits--ex:small envelopes). 🔹The label has a tracking # to follow the package. Once it's delivered and the buyer accepts, posh releases your funds! 🔹Once you get paid, you can either get a check mailed to you, or keep your money in your posh account to go shopping! 💕💕

Feb 25Reply
meg23
meg23 @katie1347 you're off to a great start with your closet! I would say at this point your best strategy is to share to posh parties (your items will get more exposure that way since you don't have many followers yet), also focus on increasing your followers. I will tag you in a few of the following games I mentioned, it will take a little while but will be worth it in the end (once you have more followers, your items will be seen by a bigger audience each time you share!). In each game listing go to where it says "100 likes", click it, then scroll down the list and click "follow" by each persons name. Don't forget to like the listing so when new ppl see it, they will follow you!

proverbs_31
proverbs_31 I also want to add a tip about SHIPPING: 📦 📪 🎁 First, pre-order Free boxes ahead of time on USPS.com. They deliver to your door, for free! Get some different sizes. Remember - ONLY boxes that say "Priority Mail" and nothing more (NOT flat rate, regional rate, express, etc!!!) Once I had to decline an order I bought because it was in the wrong box and the postman was going to charge me $30 to receive the box - so I declined the package. The seller didn't want to pay the $30 either, so she lost her item AND didn't get the sale money.... OR - If you use your own box, you can also order "Priority Mail" stickers on the website to put on your own box, but you don't need to. Second, once you make a sale, you can go on USPS.com again to "Schedule a Pickup". That way you don't need to make a trip to the post office. Just be aware that you don't have insurance coverage on the package until it's picked up by the postman, so be careful not to leave it on your doorstep if you're not trusting of your surroundings. You can specify where you want the postman to look for your package. I think this is a really convenient way to always ship next day!! Any more questions about this, just ask! 😊

meg23 ❤EXCELLENT SHIPPING TIPS❤ courtesy of @proverbs_31 -- see above listing!! (Wish I could move this up to the top under the rest!) I would add a tip I got from an awesome posher who also happened to be a post office delivery lady: if you want to schedule a pickup thru the app but are hesitant to leave your pkg in plain sight, put it in a plastic storage bin (the colored ones not clear), then specify that in the comments on the app (ex: in green plastic tub by front door). She said this worked well for her and one of her regular customers!

waselman Thanks for all this information. Do you mind checking out my closet to see if there is anything more I should be doing? I would love to host a party. meg23
meg23 @waselman your closet looks great and you've made several sales, so looks like you're doing something right! The main thing I see is that you don't have many followers yet. So I would work on increasing followers. I can tag you in a few followers games. They take a while but they work, and the time consuming part is a one time thing. Also try to share your items to parties whenever you can. Both these things will help you get exposure. And yes the three month requirement applies to hosting as well. But it might be even longer. I had been on posh over a year before I got selected. In the meantime focus on building your closet and your followers. Lmk if you have any other questions.
Mar 14Reply
waselman
waselman Thank you so much. Quick question. I have tried to understand these following games. How do you tag multiple people in a listing? Do you have to write all there names down? I'm sure there is an easier way than copy and pasting one at a time?

wshapiro @meg23 thanks for the info. I'm not that new but only fairly recently started making sales. The only thing I don't get is why some people can be so mean and rude on here! Makes no sense to me! Question: when you share to a party does it also share to your followers or do you have to click both 'share' buttons?
Mar 25Reply
meg23
meg23 @wshapiro hi Whitney nice to meet you! And I totally agree, there's no need to be rude! As far as I understand, sharing to a party also shares to your followers. I could be wrong but I think that's the way it works.

proverbs_31 @quirkyandcute Hi I noticed you're question. I'm not @meg23 but I'm her friend also named Megan 😁 From what I understand, Your listings will only show up to the party one time. But don't worry! Sharing definitely helps!! And you'll find that when you share items from someone else's closet, often they will share yours in return....
May 27Reply
proverbs_31
proverbs_31 @quirkyandcute ...And when that person shares your items, your items will be exposed to all their followers - likely a lot of people who don't follow you and wouldn't have seen it otherwise. The more shares/exposure, the more chance of someone seeing it who likes it 😊 I find a big correlation between how active I am and how many sales I have.... Hope that helps!
May 27Reply
proverbs_31
proverbs_31 @ericsangel1 Hi I noticed your question so I'm gonna try to help (hope you don't mind @meg23 😉) The only way to "organize" your closet is to share the items. As I add new items or update listings, I just share stuff to reorganize how I want it. The good news is, more shares = more exposure of your items = greater chance of someone seeing and liking/buying it! Sometimes I share most or all of my items, but that's good!
May 27Reply
proverbs_31
proverbs_31 @ericsangel1... I personally find it easier to "share" on my laptop vs my phone because it's just one click per share (you don't have to open the listing). Hope that helps!

meg23 @richera137 made a couple suggestions on specific listings. Overall I think your pics are great but I would suggest taking them in the daytime near a window, I've found that to be the best way to improve my lighting. Also remember that men's and children's items are not allowed on posh, so having them listed can keep you from getting HPs and would definitely keep you from ever being considered for cohost or suggested user

terristephan @meg23 Hi Megan, would you mind if I asked a few Posh questions? How have you gotten so many followers? Also, do you do this full time and how are you achieving your sales? I've hit a major dry spell on sales end. Also, how are you able to keep you closet organized by item type? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Jun 22Reply
meg23
meg23 @fashioniata good questions! I've gotten so many followers by being a suggested user. I only had 17k in May, then I made SU and it tripled! I only do posh on the side and mainly just items from my closet (vs some ppl who sell "merchandise" from a supplier or even shop clearance sales then sell on posh at a higher price).
Jun 22Reply
meg23
meg23 @fashioniata I'm mainly in it to make a little money selling my stuff, not to get a second income from it. That is possible but I'm not the one to give advice on it. I usually get one or two sales a month. Nothing major but it gives me a little in my posh account to spend. It goes in cycles tho. I may not make a sale for two months then get three in a week.
Jun 22Reply
terristephan
terristephan @meg23 Thanks so much! How were you able to become a Selected User? Also, how do you drive your sales? I only sell out of my closet as well. My mom may list a few items.
Jun 22Reply
meg23
meg23 @fashioniata mainly I would say try to increase your followers (follow games) then share as much as you can. I don't share as often as I should, but it really is the key to getting sales.
Jun 22Reply
terristephan
terristephan @meg23 Thanks so much for your help and suggestions. I'm not into to make a second income either. Just to sell off these things to replace with things that fit. Lol. That's really my only objective. ☺️

Jul 02Reply
meg23
meg23 @sbrucker you drop the price by 10%, anyone who likes it gets an email notification, they usually offer a shopping discount for an hour. Most times there's only a discount on some items but during closet clear out all items get one
Jul 02Reply
meg23
meg23 @bayleigh30 focus on growing your follower base then share as often as you can. Also sharing to parties will help. Honestly tho, it just takes time, especially when you're first getting started
Jul 02Reply
meg23
meg23 @bayleigh30 a few suggestions: 1. Trading is allowed on posh but not supported. If you advertise that your open to trades you will probably hurt your business bc a lot of ppl won't buy or even share 2. Try to refrain from asking ppl if they're interested just because they liked or shared. Many ppl get annoyed by poshers who do this and will actually un-like the item
Jul 02Reply
meg23
meg23 @bayleigh30 (continued) 3. Make your cover shots eye catching. Make sure the lighting is good enough to see all details of an item. Ideally either modeling or using s mannequin is best, but even ha fun an items on a closet door might work. Here's some closets with great cover shots to give you ideas: @brie309 @proverbs_31 @pre_pa514 @bake_me_a_cake @sarahtennis @bwenger.

I don't have a lot of time to devote to Posh and want to make the time I spend meaningful. I am selling things that I am no longer in love with so I can SHOP! Posh allows me to look for deals in my size when I have a few moments vs going to resale or consignment shops to look for hours and still not find anything.
Aug 20Reply

meg23 @motowndeltalady glad I could help! And you're right I much prefer posh over a consignment store. Jan 12Reply
meg23
meg23 @exwolfe I haven't seen either of those items specified in the official lists from posh. I consider posh to be a site for women's fashion, such as clothing and accessories. I personally tend to err on the side of caution and not list it if I have any doubts. But you can always email posh support!

katieholly
katieholly I understand what an In Search Offer is. But how do you make one? And how is it seen?
Jan 17Reply
meg23
meg23 @katieholly anytime you look at an active listing, you'll see an offer tab immediately to the left of the buy button. That's where you would make an offer as a buyer. As a seller, it will show up in your notifications. You have the option to accept, decline, or counter offer. Keep in mind the buyer has already entered their payment info, so if you hit accept, it's a done deal. Versus if you counteroffer they might not buy. Offers are good for 24 hrs before they expire. Make sense?

kcamp9
kcamp9 Hello! This post is great! I was wondering what items you have found that sell the most, what style, etc. What is in demand!? Haha I just have a few clothing items aside from purses and stuff and none of it has gotten any interest it seems. Do you find things from the goodwill or is everything from your personal closet? I wish I had more to sell that will actually sell and I don't know where to start! Any direction for me? Thanks again!
Feb 06Reply
meg23
meg23 @kcamp9 see tip #2 in the making sales section. Like I said this takes a little while but has worked for me in the past. It would really help with your mk bags! Search the particular style them go to the likes on one that has a lot. For each person in the list, follow then share 3 items. (Have your same bag at the top of your closet so when they go to return the favor, they see it first).
Feb 07Reply
kcamp9
kcamp9 I have kind of an odd question. Does poshmark cover you for sales that are made from brand new Poshers with no feedback and hardly any followers? I just had someone buy a bag that's brand new on here (6 followers). If they don't ever accept the bag or anything, will they still give me the money? Do you ever like refuse a sale based on closet stats and fear that you won't get your money once you send off your item?
Feb 20Reply
meg23
meg23 @kcamp9 no worries! Regardless of how long the buyer has been on posh, posh has your back! The buyer has a certain amount of time to accept (I think it's 3 days but I don't remember off the top of my head). Anyway, when that time is up, poshmark automatically releases the funds. So I wouldn't be worried about accepting the sale. Make sense?
Feb 20Reply
kcamp9
kcamp9 Yes that makes sense. Thanks so much for your help! 😃

goodcents Thank you! This was very helpful and concise! Really appreciate you taking the time to put it together.
Mar 10Reply
goodcents
goodcents OK, now I have questions! When I am shipping an item, is there a way to: . Print out the labels 2 to a page or lay them out differently so that I can use the 8"x5" 2-to-a-sheet self-stick printer labels?. Print out a packing slip? I'm just printing a select part of my notification email right now.
Mar 12Reply
goodcents
goodcents Next question. Is there a lot of buyer fraud, in your opinion? Hearing anecdotal bits about fraud. Do most people take pics before sending in addition to the listing photos? Any advice for best practices to prevent any fraudulent claims?
Mar 12Reply
meg23
meg23 @goodcents wow great questions! There's no option for a packing slip (to my knowledge), but that would be a great suggestion to ask posh support. As to the labels, the best I can figure out (although you'd have to be more tech savvy than me), is to copy and paste -then rotate- both into a word document? Dunno how that would work, it's above my tech knowledge! Hope this helps!
Mar 12Reply
goodcents
goodcents And... Seeing a lot of people asking upcoming hosts to look at their closets for HP. Started doing this myself, but it always feels a bit pushy to me when I'm doing it! Prob just my personality! Is this standard practice and considered good Posh Etiquette? Any other advice to achieve a coveted HP? In your opinion, does having an item chosen as a HP help tremendously in selling the item or just a tad bit?
Mar 12Reply
meg23
meg23 @goodcents by buyer fraud do you mean buyers trying to claim the item was damaged when it wasn't to get it free?
Mar 12Reply
meg23
meg23 @goodcents I try not to ask unless the host specifically says it's ok. After hosting, o know how overwhelming it is to be inundated with thousands of requests and only able to pick 100. Some hosts say ask so that's fine. Pay attention to whether she says just comment on her party listing or tag her in a specific item
Mar 12Reply
goodcents
goodcents I like that negotiation is part of PM! Had lots of GREAT offers, but also a # of quite low ones on better-branded new items. Just wondering if you had any experience/advice with offers. Do you get a lot of low ball offers on new and used items? Any advice on preventing low ball offers to start with? When you need to counter an offer, do you comment in the post telling them your counter is your best offer or only respond to offer without comment thru the offer page? Thanks!
Mar 12Reply
goodcents
goodcents Wow! Thanks for the quick response. That was my feeling of asking for visits to closets for potential HP's. Can't imagine how many requests you must get! By buyer fraud, yes I'm hearing stories of people buying something to wear immediately, then claiming now NWT or whatever to get to return it, etc. Don't know if this is very rare or if I should be taking steps by taking pics prior to shipping, etc. to help out should a question arise about an item being not as described.
Mar 12Reply
goodcents
goodcents Again, you usually hear about the 1 out of 1,000 transactions that had any type of a challenge and not the other 999. Also, I know you are a suggested user (CONGRATS!). You had given some info on minimums to become a party host. Are the minimum standards about the same to become a suggested user? I'll have to see if my more-tech-savvy hubby can figure out how to rotate the labels. Thought there might be an obvious option I was missing (happens alot!). Love my self-stick labels!
Mar 12Reply
goodcents
goodcents Hi, again! Just wanted to say thanks. I emailed PM support w/ my many questions. Also realized I was way too tired last night and asking questions that should have stayed discreetly in my head! Don't feel you need to answer those! Need to stop typing when half asleep! Lastly, just a compliment/comment. cont...
Mar 12Reply
goodcents
goodcents Cont... PM is AWESOME! I have had so many people follow/share/answer questions. Plus, I have had every single person leave feedback for the items I've shipped! I've never experienced that other places. Thanks, again, for ALL your info and time.

andrastyles This is super helpful can you truly make a living by building a small business here? I went from making $52k a year to 0. This week I quit my job as the stress was making me chronically sick at only 30 years old. I hope I can grow a small business here so I don't have to suffer through this ever again. Thank u so much for showing the way❤️💕😘
Jun 22Reply
meg23
meg23 @andrastyles hi Andra nice to meet you! So glad my listing was helpful, and welcome to posh! To answer your question, it is possible to make a living on posh but I think it's somewhat rare. For most ppl, it's more of a side income. That's not to say it can't be done, it would just take a very large inventory (even better if its high end), a pretty big follower base, and (probably the biggest factor) almost constant activity on posh
Jun 22Reply
meg23
meg23 @andrastyles .... I certainly wouldn't discourage you but it certainly isnt a "quick fix" to needing a full time income. Even the few ppl who do get to the point they can support themselves on it, probably don't get there until a couple of years on posh (several months minimum). On a positive note, your closet looks great! You did a great job with your listings! May I ask what field you were working in before you quit?
Jun 22Reply
andrastyles
andrastyles Thank you so much for your thoughtful response! It's very helpful! You're right and it's going to take me building up to it and probably selling retail which I see many users doing too. Any thoughts on that? Now I have all the time to focus my energy in this new venture rather than getting sick at work. Thanks again for your words of wisdom they mean so much! 💕😘
Jun 22Reply
andrastyles
andrastyles Yes definitely it takes time and a lot of effort it's definitely not easy. I have been nonstop since Monday and when I sold my first item I nearly had a heart attack from the excitement....lol I never thought I could make a sale that fast! Lol.... I have been a litigation paralegal for the past 9 years and I just couldn't go another day that's how stressful it is. It's the constant hamster in the wheel thing...sucks terribly too many demands it's physically mentally and emotionally draining
Jun 22Reply
meg23
meg23 @andrastyles I completely understand --I'm a ER nurse which is ridiculously crazy at times! I think it's important to know when to give it up. I think we can tolerate crazy stressful jobs for a while but when it starts to affect us physically and emotionally, it's time to let it go! Good luck making a new career !
Jun 22Reply
andrastyles
andrastyles @meg23 wow that's one profession too that can cause major stress. For me I was 21 when I started and I think I lasted quite a long time before I burned and crash. One thing I regret is having stayed in a job that made me so miserable for so long. No matter what I did, workout, stress management, etc. it was eating me alive little by little!! It's crazy but I'm excited to embark on a new journey. Anyway thanks for hearing me out and lending ur support! I am forever grateful!! 💕❤️😍😘

proverbs_31
proverbs_31 @jessermom Hi there :) The only way to "organize" your closet or to have your items in any particular order is to share (and/or edit) the item. When you share it, it goes to the top of your closet. If I have my closet in a particular order I like, then I start at the bottom and share each item upwards, that way my items stay in the same order.
Oct 14Reply
proverbs_31
proverbs_31 @jessermom When shoppers go to your closet, they can use the filters at the top if they are looking for something (size, color, category, etc). Other people have asked about this, and it's possible that Posh will eventually come out with a new feature to handle this. I just got back from Poshfest (so fun!) where they announced the next 4 features to be rolled out: sort by price (low to high and high to low), zoom in on pics, offers on bundles, and "reply" on comments for apple users. Exciting!

meg23 @rach1366 you're welcome! Glad you found it helpful! It is probably a little outdated, I wrote this post several years ago and a lot has changed on posh since then!

meg23 @dagmarstone hi whenever you share an item it moves to the top of the closet, currently I don’t know of a way to rearrange items in your closet without sharing. Can be kind of a pain if you want yo rearrange a lot, hope they add a shortcut at some point!

meg23 @jmurr001 Hi I’m sorry if you thought I was rude. I was merely trying to give you constructive feedback that would help you make sales. Customer service can make or break a posh business. I’m sure it’s not your intention to lose sales due to a response delay or inability to give measurements. I was simply offering you practical techniques to offer better customer service. However, I apologize if the tone came across as rude. Best wishes and good luck with your posh business!💕
