It seems like most people have had some sort of negative experience either with trades, making a deal or the actual purchase. Without mentioning any names, unless its a compliment, let's all share the things that we wish more people did or pet peeves that we've run into to help others learn how to best serve the customer!

Hi Carrie! I'm actually working on a blog post right now called "The Do's and Don'ts of Poshmark." LOL I put it on hold to do another one someone asked for that I entitled "Signed up for Poshmark - Now what?" I'll share the Do's and Don'ts with you as soon as I finish. I have a pretty good list going so far. :)

Well, I would like to say I love poshmark. One thing that kind of bothers me is when you are looking to buy something from someone and they are urging you and kind of rushing you to buy, or trade then you do and they take their time sending it out. Idk... It really irks me.
Oct 11Reply

carriek
@calgel I haven't experienced that but I definitely understand how that could be annoying! Especially since the post office will pick up boxes at your door! That is one thing that I think a lot of people don't know about that is an AMAZING free service!

I recently run into a situation where the seller changed there mind which Posh said can be done, but they didn't even tag me to tell me they cancelled after they set it up and I pressed buy now! I just think we should all be kind to other Poshers!
Oct 12Reply

carriek
@jax12 that's a great point! We should all extend the courtesy of keeping each other up to date on orders.

i dont know about alot of people, but im super cautious, and so far ive only purchased from people who have already sold. that way i could see what people who bought from them had to say. (timely packages, order was correct) stuff like that, if that makes sense :P

I definitely feel sellers should be completely honest in what they are selling, and not jazz up an item with good camera angles and use vague terms like "gentle wear and tear". I purchased a bag and was super excited, only when I received it it was a lot more worn out than the pictures lead on. I asked for a refund and the seller was completely rude. She claimed her posting wasn't misleading because I didn't probe deeper with questions. I shouldn't have to! Be completely honest and straight forward as a seller, that's all one can ask!

Peeve: buyers who are granted massive discounts, or put bundles on reserve and then don't buy and don't respond to seller's inquiries. Please let's all have the decency to just say "Sorry for all the trouble but I changed my mind". As a buyer, I won't ask anyone for discount or bundle unless I'm ready to pay immediately. As a seller, I decided to only give discounts for bundles. Suggestion to all sellers is let buyer know you will hold items for a set number of hours or days, and the hold will be automatically released after deadline. If they still want the item after- well, they can simply hit the BUY button. No holds for the wishy washy!
Oct 13Reply

carriek
@amie5585 I agree! That is why I feel it's best to send TONS of pics before they buy since we are only allowed 4 per listing on here
Oct 13Reply

carriek
@cloudrider9 I think you've hit the nail on the head!!! That was the exact reason for starting this post because I was so frustrated with someone I had been hold stuff for for 2 weeks with no purchase or response as to if they were going to purchase or not!

@carriek I have benn waiting for a trade since 10/4 Do you think I've waited long enough
Oct 13Reply

carriek
@keefaschick I would say give it to 10/18. Unfortunately the only thing posh can do would possibly be to give you your shipping back. However you can definitely warn others not to trade with that person if you don't ever receive our item!
Oct 13Reply

keefaschick
@carriek Unfortunately for me this is the second shipment I have not received
Oct 13Reply

carriek
@keefaschick I'm so sorry to hear that! It's so unfortunate that there are so many dishonest people in this world! I am dealing with someone right now returning an item because they said it wasn't describe correctly when I sent 15 pictures and specifically told them that it was 30+ years old in vintage condition. This kind of thing makes me lose faith in humanity and discourages me in my selling.
Oct 13Reply

keefaschick
@carriek I hear you on that one

I am so glad to see that someone has a post like this where we can vent our frustration!! I just had to deal with this lady that is very pushy when it comes to selling her stuff which at the beginning I found "funny" but now I'm just disgusted. She was selling this coach bag and never stated on her listing that the bag was in such bad shape. Buyers will ask her for the condition of the bag and she said very clearly that it was in excellent condition and that she even used a chair for her bags every time she went out. She was waiting on a buyer to get her funds released to sell the bag. I asked a question about the bag and made a comment saying I understood she had offered it to someone else. Well this lady didn't feel like waiting on the other buyer so she went on one of my listings and asked me to buy the bag that she was tired on waiting on the other buyer and to please take it from her hands. And so I did (big mistake) I wanted the bag for my mom. Well I got the bag and wa, wa, wa, waaaaaa!! I open the box sooo exited and what comes out?? a totally beat up bag that had two black stains and a terrible odor from inside!! It was so bad I had to leave it outside of my room! Next day I sent her an email telling her very nicely to please give me a refund. I didn't go to the listing and posted anything because I felt bad ( I don't know why ) 😒 And she answered me back in a very nasty way telling me that the bag was for someone else, and that I went behind the other buyers back and bought it after she had it offered already!! She said that the bag was in " perfect condition" before she shipped it. Did I mention that she shoved the bag in a tiny box? well thank God PM is helping me out and saw the pictures I took and will be giving me a full refund. But this lady is doing this to a lot of people because I've seen her "misleading" a lot of buyers on a lot of her listings!! Ok so that's my story. Sorry for making this so long but I feel a lot better now! This is almost lime " therapy session" lol!! thank you for listening!!! 😊
Oct 14Reply

@angelspace70 that's so frustrating!!! And yes I did create this so we could vent! Lol I felt like this was better than going and personally bashing the people we were angry with about different situations!

@waters it is my prerogative to feel the way I do about this situation. I don't appreciate being threatened with pictures when I can also post the pictures that I sent to you that show the exact condition the bag is in. I never said the purse was even close to new condition, hence why it was priced the same way as other vintage purses were on eBay, most in way worse condition. We both have our own opinions of the situation and I don't feel that we are going to change each others minds. Please stay off of my listings and I will do the same for you. Posh is now in control of this situation and it is not up to us.
Oct 16Reply

carriek
@waters Erica, again I really appreciate your apology and I also apologize for the situation. As soon as I get the item back it will be off to the doctor to be fixed!

I particularly like when a seller takes the extra minute or two and the extra energy to write a note with the purchase. And make it decorative. Or even when they spend those extra $$ to buy pretty stationary. It show they really appreciate the sale and the commitment they have. I also appreciate the Paypal discounts some sellers give. PayPal is just as safe in my opinion but we don't have to spend $7 on the shipping.
As a seller, I dislike people who like an item but have no intention of buying. Some sellers really need to sell to make closet room or for the $. It's misleading to sellers for people to like an item but never comment or intend to buy.
Oct 17Reply

My pet peeve is when your purchase comes smelling like a very old smoked in hotel. And the item was brand new never used. I had to keep my purchase outside for over a month! I have nothing against smokers but they need to realize if they smoke in their house everything smells like an ashtray!
Oct 25Reply

tonya616
@nesira I guess I never looked at it that way. I like items alot in people's closet. It's helps me be able to go back and look at their items. I can't remember what was who's in what's closet but I can go to my likes and find ur closet again very quickly. It's just another perspective to think about. I can't stand when I do like or share something, i am hounds with one word questions. Interested? Trade? PayPal? If I'm truly interested in the item, I will let that person know. Sometimes I'm just "window shopping" and later can go to my likes and shop for real. I really tend to back away from the pushy ones.
Nov 25Reply

tonya616
@carriek I also had someone who bought shoes from me. I explained and pictured the flaws. She complained to PM that they were just awful. When u compare our two pics you can see that she either made the areas worse or spent a night dancing in them and then wanted money back. They came back to me ten times worse than what I sent. I'm pretty new on here and that left a bad taste since PM gave her the money back and I'm stuck with beat up shoes b

@tonya616
It's one thing if you're "window shopping" but I've had people like some of my items and never respond or have any actual intention of buying. They've asked for reserves, I put the item in reserve and it sits there. I had a pair of boots sit on reserve for 2 weeks it was very frustrating. As for PayPal, I wouldn't do it for a major trade but I had bundled a couple shirts from a fellow posher and bought her bundle but then wanted to add a few more tops, so to save me $7 on shipping I had set her the couple extra dollars on PayPal. As for trading, I've had a few good experiences. But I went through PM and had the person I was trading with buy an item of $0 so the shipping would be taken care of. Last month I traded a dress for 2 pairs of shoes, and a scarf (I had traded with this person before so I wasn't too hesitant) but I have yet to receive the scarf. So I have mixed feelings about trading.
Nov 25Reply

tonya616
@nesira I agree with you completely. I don't trade at all. It just makes me nervous and if I didn't get my items. I would just lose all faith that there are good and honest people out there.
Nov 25Reply

nesira
@tonya616
I personally don't trade anymore. But I have lowered my price to match a fellow PMer's I do a "equal trade" but I've given up on trading ever since the previous incident. I got her package 3 days after he shipped I have YET to recoeve the scarf and it has been a month.

@carriek I'm kind of new here but was just wondering why it is wrong to expose a scammer. My first purchase went poorly. I did not receive what was pictured at all. Thankfully PM made this right for me with a full refund. I have since made a purchase with someone else and am thrilled. It is exactly what I ordered and what was pictured. I would gladly purchase from her again and would recommend her to fellow posters. What happens when PM finds out about someone being completely dishonest?
Nov 26Reply

carriek
@pbooth that's kind of an interesting question to answer because every situation varies. First I would say you will build a great reputation in the posh community by leaving positive comments about purchases like you mentioned. It's always nice to hear that someone enjoys their purchase. Now with the scammer part: I truly believe that everyone's opinion of an item differs. If someone says its in good condition but you believe it is in fair condition I unfortunately believe that that sort of thing is a matter of personal opinion and it would be up to you to decide if you would like to file a claim with posh. However in the case of people that are true scammers such as not honoring trades, taking money through pp and never shipping or selling fake items, I believe it is a good thing to let others know of the person so they don't encounter the same situation. If the situation you are speaking of has been resolved by posh, I would say its best to leave it alone unless you have seen that this person has done this sort of thing before. It can really damage someone's reputation if they are attacked as a scammer when in actuality it may have been a simple mistake. Hth!!!!
Nov 26Reply

pbooth
@carriek I agree that opinions vary and accept that. What happened to me wasn't like that. I bought 2 items that were described in the pictures and both were not what I purchased at all. I sent pictures of what I was sent and PM took care of it for me. I just wondered if they still let them sale or not. Needless to say I don't follow them anymore. One more thing. When I get a new follow I always send out a share of at least one of their items as a way to help. Is this acceptable etiquette?
Nov 26Reply

carriek
@pbooth I do believe that posh will continue to allow them to sell as long as it doesn't happen too many times. If they feel that the person is doing that kind of thing too often I have a feeling they will shut down their account. Sharing items is a very nice gesture and will get you more traffic to your page. I will usually go back to look at people's pages that have shared my items. Unfortunately since I have a lot of traffic usually on my newsfeed sometime shares get lost but they are greatly appreciated and usually reciprocated by most! A good way to jump start sales is to follow a ton of people. If you go to my page and click on following that's a great place to start! Happy Poshing and welcome to the community! Hopefully future experiences will be better
Nov 26Reply

@carriek Thanks for the advice. Already following you and have already shared as well. Have a wonderful week. ⛄⛄⛄
Nov 26Reply

@carriek Sorry one more question. Does your closet automatically go on the feed for your followers or do you have to put them there daily. If yes. How??? Thanks!!!!
Nov 26Reply

carriek
@pbooth you do have to put it there daily. I would suggest doing it at the time a party is going on. Usually the ones that happen at 9pm ( that central time) are for all items. The ones during the day are specific categories. To share your items there are 2 options, you can click each of your items go to edit and go through just as if you were selling a new item or you can click share on each item like you do for other people. I would suggest the first method if you are sharing during a party and the later method at any other time of the day you feel like showing followers your items.

@jessvk hey ma'am! I noticed we have the same last name and I was wondering where you are from? (I don't post my full name on here just for security) it's very rare that I come across someone with that last name!
Feb 03Reply

jessvk
@carriek we do have a rare last name! My family took up roots in Nebraska when they came from Germany, then my Grandfather was approached to come to East TN to work on the Manhattan project. Now we have family from California to South Carolina. How about you? We may very well be distant cousins!!!
Feb 03Reply

carriek
@jessvk my family came in through the port of New Orleans and we still live in South Lousiana. The only Keims we know down here are my immediate family so it's nice to know that there are more of us out there in the US. My dad actually went to Concordia in Nebraska for a while!

@slmillard please don't write comments like that on my items. I actually paid $50 a piece and bought them for a dance number so I have multiple. It's kind of rude to call that out when you have no idea how much I paid. Thank you and have a nice day
May 03Reply

carriek
@amylittlebird please do not comment on my items. It is rude to take a customer blatantly on my post. She has already purchased from me and my item is brand new not all used and wrinkled like yours. If you want to let a customer know you have an item than you can tag them in your item but its disrespectful to do it in the way you did. Thank you and have a nice day

Ok this is the third time I have had someone like about 20 items in my closet and ask me to bundle only to turn it down. So I first confirm the price (18 items which will cost me at least $11 shipping) totaled $50. So wanting to get rid of stuff more than make $$ I generously took 10% off her already cheaper than cheap bundle price. When I told her it would be $45 for her 18 practically new items, she said she would have to pass because she only had $30. Are people complete idiots? You have $$ to be using an apple device but you can't add and subtract? Wouldn't common sense tell you to total your likes if you have a budget BEFORE you ask them to bundle? How does one see me knocking off $20 from prices that are already too low like $5 or less??? I can't reduce the price below $1. You're getting shoes for $1 lady! Maybe she happened to see my other pet peeve posts so she did it on purpose! Lol. so heres my Posh tip: from now on, I am going to say "what's your spending budget?" So that way, I don't bother calculating a more than fair price only to find out I wasted my time. I really dont care what your sorry situation is at home... if things are that tight, get the heck off of Poshmark and try a good will where you dont pay $7 shipping for your $1 shoes!!! Don't ask people to bundle stuff if you can't pay! Simple common sense! Bundles are not your ticket to discounts all the time. When my prices are so low, I don't feel obligated to give anyone a discount. I do it out of generosity if I feel like it. Take it or leave it. Thanks for listening, but hopefully this prevents someone from having the same negative experiences!!
Aug 23Reply

amdrea77
Omg, now she says what items can I get for $30? So I am supposed to pick for her from the 18 items? I told her the prices are all listed. Please figure out what you need or like the most and what will fit your budget. What am I, your personal shopper? Sorry, not making enough profit to waste my time on stupid.

Hi there! What a neat post! My freshest bizarre experience was last week when someone asked me if I can provide stockings with a garter belt I have on sale. "And if stockings are used, it's ok, I'll pay extra". Wait what? Ew. Buy your own, they are like $5.
Mar 24Reply

carriek
@koshka_kgsps be careful with those kinds of people! There were several people (presumably men) asking to buy womens used underwear. Your situation sounds similar and equally as disturbing!! Some people are just so gross

@carriek You know what? I did not even think of that scenario until now - I just assumed it was a gal with basic hygiene issue. :) But you are right. The plot thickens!
