Starter rose to fame in the 80’s through major athletic endorsements and the widespread popularity of their satin jackets in hip-hop. Starter carried incredible weight as a brand in the 90’s. Starter jackets became more than a jacket. Retailing at $125 and worn by the top celebrities of the day, they transcended to a status symbol. Once a rival to Adidas and Nike, Starter was bought out twice in the 2000’s and is still trying to regain its former prominence.
