The Night Before Christmas The Original Christmas Classic By Clement C. Moore 1972 Vintage Legend Originally entitled "A Visit from St. Nicholas," THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS was one of the first American Christmas classics. Clement Clarke Moore wrote the charming verse in 1822 as a Christmas gift for his own six children. Published anonymously in 1823, the poem was not attributed to the author until its publication in a collection of Moore's verse in 1844. This edition features reproductions of illustrations by Thomas Nast from artwork furnished by Brown University, to whom grateful acknowledgement is given. This book has been very well cared for and cherished.
