Excellent preloved condition Beautiful and colorful Raku pottery figurine of a Handmade in a job development project in a small seaside resort near Cape Town, South Africa. This piece is a great addition or start to your collection! Using the Japanese art of Raku, the ceramic piece is painted in bright colors and glazed in a 950 degree kiln. Rather than traditional cooling, the pieces are then cooled in straw. This process allows the glaze to crackle giving each piece a unique and special surface while retaining their bright coloring. Now Raku Pottery or Raku Ware has become a general term for a type of ceramic technique that is globally known and practiced. The art lends itself well to these hand made, African inspired creations of various animals and figures. Each piece is removed from a 950 degree kiln and placed in straw. Slight imperfections may occur as part of the glazing process. Each piece is unique and may show slight variation in coloring or design from the next.
